Government Official States Ministry of Defence Examining Potential Threat from Chinese Cars, as Staff Told to Avoid Confidential Discussions in Cars.

An defense minister has confirmed that the MoD is actively investigating the potential threats associated with Chinese-made vehicles, and staff have been instructed to refrain from discussing secret matters in any cars.

Safety Advice for Defence Personnel

During a recent interview on a radio station, Luke Pollard addressed reports that Ministry of Defence staff have been instructed not to talk about secret material while riding in Chinese vehicles.

He stated that the ministry is “looking into” cars from China within its fleets, but emphasised that safety is a issue in every modern cars.

We have a collection of thousands of vehicles in the MoD and those vehicles account for a very small number.
But regardless of if you’re driving a vehicle from China or a non-Chinese car, our instruction to our staff is to avoid connecting Ministry of Defence devices into their vehicle, not to have discussions at a classified classification in any kind of car, due to the increasing threats of eavesdropping that are present in all automobile, to restrict those secret talks in secure locations. This is a wise and reasonable thing for anyone worried about security.

When it was put to him that it would be wise for the MoD to cease using all cars from China, Pollard responded: That is exactly what we’re investigating at the present time.”

Wider Defence Context

This revelation comes as reports from Scandinavian countries have alerted the UK to the existence of multi-purpose shutdown mechanisms in Chinese-made buses, which could enable China to disable buses and cause disruption to transport systems.

Additionally, a Russian intelligence vessel has been shining laser beams at Royal Air Force pilots, labeled a “extremely risky” action by government representatives.

The broader defence situation underscores the importance of robust measures and vigilance in every areas of government operations, from transport use to discussions habits.
